NANZAN University

Nanzan University, the hosting institution of ISOLDE XII, was founded in 1949 by the Divine Word Missionaries. It is recognized as one of the most prestigious universities in the Chubu (central) region.

Sessions will be held in the new building to be completed in March 2011 at Nagoya Campus (see the following campus map) located in the rolling hills overlooking metropolitan Nagoya city.

Nagoya

Nagoya is the third-largest incorporated city and the fourth most populous urban area in Japan. Located on the Pacific coast in the Chubu region at the center of Honshu (the main island of Japan), it is the capital of Aichi Prefecture.

The greater Nagoya area, called Chukyo metropolitan area, with its population more than 7 million is the most economically robust region in Japan. Toyota Motor Corporation headquarters in Toyota city; Honda Motor Corporation, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and many other large multinational corporations also have plants in the area.

Kyoto

Kyoto is a city in the central part of the island of Honshu. It has a population close to 1.5 million, and sixth most populous city in Japan. Formerly the capital of Japan, it is now the capital of Kyoto Prefecture, as well as a part of Keihanshin (Kyoto-Osaka-Kobe) metropolitan area. Since it has been the political and cultural center for long time, about 20% of Japan's National Treasures and 14% of Important Cultural Properties exist in the city proper. The UNESCO World Heritage Site Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto (Kyoto, Uji and Otsu Cities) includes 17 locations in Kyoto, Uji (in Kyoto Prefecture) and Otsu (in Shiga Prefecture).
